The Giurgiu County is situated in the Southern part of Romania, on the middle course of the Danube River, as a part of the Romanian Plain. Myths, legends, even traces of ancient Thrace are waiting to be discovered by visitors to Belogradchik, or small white town, situated in the foothills of the Balkan mountains in northwest Bulgaria. It is said to be the best of Bulgarian woodcarving and is the only mosque with a Bulgarian fretwork ceiling.
