Punta del Este is a beautiful beach resort in Uruguay, perhaps the best known and most fashionable in South America. Port Stanley is the only town on the Falkland Islands, and though it has little more than 1,200 residents, it contains half of the islands' population. There are 700,000 sheep, and a wonderful assortment of sea birds and elephant seals.

The Drake Passage is the body of water between the southern tip of South America at Cape Horn and Antarctica. It forms part of the Southern Ocean. It is named after 16th century English explorer Sir Francis Drake.

One of the most pleasant landings in Antarctica, Half Moon Island has a sizeable rookery of chinstrap penguins as well as kelp gulls and nesting Antarctic terns. Whales are often seen patrolling the shores, and this small island offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

This protected harbour lives up to its name. Ringed by hanging ice cliffs and dotted with floating icebergs reflecting every colour of the spectrum, it has a heavenly aura about it.
